Lindt Cafe: 17 Lindor Ball flavours put to the taste test, Sydney (29 June 2012)

Great balls of Lindor

I've always wanted to try all the Lindt Lindor Ball flavours so when I spotted a 25% discount on the Pick & Mix Collection in the Lindt Cafe I thought it was a clear sign from the Chocolate God that it was time. My intended visit was actually to just get a pink and blue Lindor for decorating my wrapping of a baby gift so it was fortuitous I came across the promoted discount. I found 17 flavours which weighed about 219 grams and came to a cost of $21.88 but with the 25% discount ended up being $16.41. The next step was identifying all the flavours I just bought as I didn't have a chance to write down the information from the display. The Australian Lindt website didn't help much in this regard but Wikipedia and Lindt USA were good reference points. I arranged the balls in order of what I thought would be intensity of flavour starting with White Chocolate and ending with 60% Extra Dark Chocolate. 

My favourites in the end were Dark Orange Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut, Carmello, Coffee and 60% Extra Dark Chocolate. I also really enjoyed the Dark Peppermint and Peanut ButterMy least favourite was the Raspberry which reminded me too much of one of those dentist fluoride flavours. I usually love mint but the Mint flavour was perhaps just a bit too minty. I think the most unfortunate named Lindor was the Gianduja which sounded like some medical condition you'd have to see a doctor about. I'm not sure if these are the only flavours we'll find in Australia but I thought a Dark Chocolate with Candied Ginger would be a good combination and perhaps Lindt should create a Chilli Chocolate version like they have available in their Excellence block range. One wrapping colour that always confuses me is the blue wrapper which I keep thinking is the Milk Chocolate but it's for the Dark Chocolate and I think the red wrapper is the dark chocolate.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: It's chocolate, Lots of flavours to choose from, Pretty colours
CONS: It's best not to keep track of the calories, $99.90 per kilo isn't cheap, Not all wrappers are labelled with their flavour, Only limited range available in supermarkets
MUST TRY: Dark Orange Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut, Carmello, Coffee, 60% Extra Dark Chocolate
VERDICT: Little chocolate treats that make for great gifts for others or for yourself

White Chocolate 

White Chocolate — good for white chocolate lovers

Irish Cream

Irish Cream — subtle flavour although might need to try again

Stracciatella: white chocolate shell with cocoa pieces with a smooth white filling

Stracciatella — reminded me of cookies and cream 

Seasonal flavour: Milk outside with smooth white filling 

Seasonal flavour - nothing too exciting compared to the others

Gianduja: Hazelnut and cocoa filling enveloped in a 45% dark chocolate shell

Gianduja — quite nice although the name of it sounds like a medical condition to me

Mint

Mint — a bit too overly minty like a mintee 

Dark Peppermint 
WORTH TRYING :-)

Dark Peppermint — flavours work well for peppermint lovers. It should be one of my favourites so perhaps I need to try again.

Dark orange chocolate 
SIMON FAVOURITE :-)

Raspberry 

Raspberry — My least favourite and didn't like because it reminded me too much of a dentist fluoride flavour, sorry! Perhaps I need to try again.

Milk Chocolate 

Milk Chocolate — the classic but a bit sweet for my liking compared to others in the range 


Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate — I prefer it over the milk chocolate, good chocolate hit, blue wrapping always confuses me though and I think it's a milk chocolate

Peanut Butter 
WORTH TRYING :-)

Peanut Butter — very good peanut flavour and definitely for the peanut lovers

Hazelnut

Hazelnut — good flavour

Caramello 
SIMON FAVOURITE :-)

Caramello — Just like a caramello koala but sort of nicer and a touch less sweet


Coffee 
SIMON FAVOURITE :-)

Coffee — Good flavour and decent coffee taste


Noccionoir: Hazelnut encompassed in cocoa cream and a dark chocolate shell

Noccionoir — Has nut inside although more nut to chocolate ratio might be even better

60% Extra Dark Chocolate

60% Extra Dark Chocolate — I tend to like anything that's a very dark chocolate and not overly bitter

Dark is my fave followed closely by peanut butter. I didnt know half of these existed! I should do a test like this. For research purposes of course ;)

WOW Noccionoir, Caramello, Gianduja and Irish Cream Lindt balls! Love to try these but I always wonder why Lindt has yet to produce a silver foiled Lindt ball? Despite the scrumptious chockie selections, many buy for the colours.

I find the raspberry very fake tasting. Orange, dark mint, and caramel are my favorite...strawberry (white chocolate with strawberry flavor is yummy). I have tried almost all of them!
